Thanksgiving Songs
By Rebecca the Bookseller
Just in case anyone checks in today, we didn't want you to feel like we forgot about the blog.
So here are my choices for Thanksgiving songs, if you'd like to make a mix to keep you entertained while you cook up your bird, or your reservations.
The Thanksgiving Song - Adam Sandler (this is not for kids - which is a shame, because it's catchy - but there are a couple of lines that are going to raise questions you just don't want to discuss over dinner).
Thanksgiving - Beatroots
American Thanksgiving - Chris Winters
Happy Thanksgiving - Debbie Friedman (a cute folksy song that's fun to sing)
Thanksgiving, or Pass the Indian Please - Firesign Theater (a skit on tolerance)
Thanksgiving Day - John McCutcheon
Prayer of Thanksgiving - Mormon Tabernacle Choir (any choir will work, but I like the big voices on this song)
Thanksgiving - Shawna Carol
Thanksgiving - Teddy Goldstein
Thanksgiving Theme - Vince Guaraldi Trio (I can still see Snoopy making toast and popcorn)
Over the River - Warner Bros. (I picked the Loony Tunes version because my sister's family loves them. Feel free to pick a more traditional arrangement)
Thanksgiving - Deb Talan
Colors/Dance - George Winston - he has an entire CD of Autumn music that's terrific
Thanksgiving - Benjy Westmoreland
Thanksgiving Waltz - Jay Ungar & Molly Mason (I think this was from a PBS epic like The Civil War or something)
We Gather Together - Phillip Aaberg (This was the one I liked best when I went searching on iTunes)
Celebrate Me Home - Kenny Loggins or Al Jarreau
Thank You for Being a Friend - Andrew Gold
Thankful - Josh Groban (from his new Christmas CD, which is magnificent)
We Gather Together - Brad Pribbenow
Bless This House - Dana Bishop Sanders (a lovely little prayer - we are getting all the kids to do a stanza to surprise my Mom today)
Now Thank We All Our God - Kate Higgins (the first hymn I learned)
Our House - Madness (a bit of a stretch, but a classic)
Homeward Bound [Live] - Simon & Garfunkel (a good road song too)
Family of Man - Anita Baker (I love this song and her smoky voice is perfect)
Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver
I've Got Plenty to Be Thankful For - Bing Crosby (nothing says holidays like Der Bingler)
(There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays - The Carpenters (yeah, it's pushing Christmas, but I love it)
Everybody Eats When They Come to My House - Cab Calloway (great lyrics and a classic too).
Happy eating and singing and dancing!
Please remember to tell the people you're Thankful for how you feel!
And thanks to you for being part of TLC!
Oh - and don't forget to stop back tomorrow for our TLC Online Cookie Exchange!

One that I can't believe you left off: Alice's Restaurant. Maybe I'm just showing my age.
Personal factoid about the Civil War PBS series: I watched it in bed the night my wife was in labor with our son as I timed the contractions to see if we needed to go to the hospital yet. I don't think I ever saw it before or after that night. Still remember the music, though.

Who knew there were so many Thanksgiving songs? I would only have come up with Alice's Restaurant and Over The River And Through The Woods.
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Thanks to all of you for being a bright spot in my day.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I am thankful that I have a bunch of Aunts and my Mom and Nana and Grandma to do all the cooking. That way, all I have to do is show up later and help and just be Me, Margie, which is usually the entertainment portion of the day. Just Saying.
I am also thankful for TLC, where they let me say what I want. As if, you know, really, anyone could stop me. Seriously.
So enjoy your day and eat until you are ready to take a nap. Then be thankful you can do both and start on the leftovers.

Thank you, Rebecca, for another fine song list.
I am thankful for TLC, which stood by me when I was sick, and our many fine commentating friends, who make me laugh.
I'm also thankful for my friend, Anne, who is doing the holiday cooking. My only chore is to bring a chocolate pie, which I didn't bake, and eat too much.

I am grateful that I did Early Thanksgiving this year and it was so successful that as the guests left, one said "We must do this every year!" And now the kitchen is clean and the kids are still sleeping (that L-triptophan thing must be true after all) and it's all over but the leftovers.

The leftovers are the best part. Nothing beats a ham and turkey sandwich with cheddar cheese and spicy mustard.
Gads, I'm even watching the Macy's Parade this year!

Leftovers! I love a leftover turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce. And cold lima beans in cheese sauce. And pumpkin pie the second day . . .

Happy Thanksgiving to all! May you be full and content!
I'm off to my friend Anne's house, with many games and crafts for her two children, who think I'm fun! Love 'em! Our allergist is so proud to have brought us together.
I'm thankful to have made it through a string of repairs (hope it's finished; flat tire in the rain yesterday was no fun) -- I'm buying a lottery ticket tomorrow because I must be due for some very good luck.
Rebecca, where can I pick up that Thanksgiving CD?

Well, I'm off to my sister's house for dinner. As this is my year off from cooking, we will be at my other sister's Christmas Eve. Love these off years. We will stuff ourselves silly and play cards or whatever and then go home...to more Christmas Cookie baking. Got 4 batches of Choc Chip & 3 of Sugar Cookie done yesterday.
Everyone have a wonderfull day and long shopping weekend!

Happy T-day, all! I'm grateful for the two days I just spent with my baby sister, her daughter, and my daughter and husband. I'm grateful for this community. I'm grateful to all the people who've helped me get my health back on track with my Healthy Lifestyle Change.
Brief hijack, but not really . . . my riding instructor/dear friend suffered a stroke on Tuesday. Her CAT scan also revealed a significant brain tumor. She will be in surgery tomorrow morning, and I know she would appreciate any prayers, good energy, and kind thoughts directed her way. I am beyond grateful to have this woman in my life, and I'm grateful for the huge community of friends and colleagues from the local horse community who have rallied to help take care of her through this crisis.
Hugs and full tummies to you all . . .
