Our beloved Elaine Viets had a stroke last night at 9 pm. She is just out of surgery.
The good news is that the doctors expect her to recover, and she will be able to write again. However, she has a long tough recovery road ahead of her.
Her husband Don and the Tarts are asking you for positive thoughts and prayers. We will keep you posted here on the blog as we know additional facts in order to avoid confusion.
If you'd like to send her a message, please post it here, and we'll make sure she gets them.
I am so sorry, my thoughts are with you and your family. Let me know if you want any St. Louis delicacies sent your way. Bissinger's chocolates ships well, I don't think Ted Drewes would survive the trip.

We love you, Elaine. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Heartbreaking news, but Elaine is so tough and so much a fighter, I can't imagine anything slowling her down for too long. Our prayers and good wishes are with her and her family.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I know you have the strength and humor to carry you through therapy. I'd say you were too young for this, but I know it can hit all ages. It happened to a student in my Am. Lit. class, age 16 -- we excused her from much of her course work, so perhaps you should also be excused from all responsibilities, the better to concentrate on recovery. Hugs!

Praying. Hard.
Going to re-read your books to hear your 'voice'. Too much joy and wit and life to keep quiet. So until you're back here with us, that'll do.

If there's one thing I know for certain, it's that Elaine is one hell of a fighter. We'll keep good thoughts going, and wish her the speediest of recoveries.

Elaine, so many of us love you and are pulling for you. Heal.

Elaine - I, like all your loyal readers, will wait for you to get back to good health. We'll eagerly anticipate your next book. So don't worry about a thing. Just try your best to get well.
In the meantime, I'm missing a few books from Elaine's funny repetoire. How about we show Elaine some support by buying one of her books today!

My good thoughts and prayers are coming your way as well as well as the firm belief you will come through this stronger than ever. God bless you and your family.

Sarah...my thoughts exactly. I can think of at least two I haven't read, so B&N here I come!

What everyone is also wishing: that you are up and healthy and going strong soon.

Hope you are up and about and back to your self soon, Elaine. I know it will be a long hard road, but if anyone can do it, it's you. Sending healthy thoughts and prayers your way. If you need anything from the south, give me a holler!

I'm echoing the sentiments already expressed, healing thoughts and prayers heading to you Elaine. Concentrate on getting better and we'll be here when you're ready. In the meantime, I agree with Sarah and others, Murder Unleashed just jumped to the head of my to be read pile. Hugs and best wishes.

Elaine, my prayers and love are with you.
You will get better and quickly I'm sure. Your former nun-teachers who have gone to their award will be stormng the throne of God. They want you with them....but not yet. And we want you right here so we can read more books that you write.

Elaine,
I also know that it happens to the young. My daughter suffered a stroke while she was being born. I know you will pull through and bring us even more wonderful, funny books to laugh over and enjoy. God bless you and your family.

Yes, many wishes for a full recovery. Step by step, day by day, it can be done.
Thanks for all your work on the Edgars program.

Elaine--you have a world of sisters, fans and friends. All of us are sending the most powerful wishes and hopes for you.
I can't get your "voice" out of my head..and we all hope to hear it again--soon---strong and vital and healthy.
This is a time to be very brave. And that's what you are. We all love you dearly. And we are all thinking of you.

Elaine - my thoughts, prayers, and theraputic e-hugs go out to you and your family. With your strength and determination, and the loving support of those around you, I have no doubt that you'll be back in no time.
Two years ago, I, and other NE Patriots fans were heartbroken when Tedy Bruchi had a stroke at the age of 31. Not only did he recover, but he went on to play again, missing a chance at a fourth Super Bowl by just one game (damn that Peyton Manning ;))
We love you. Heal. We'll wait.

Oops - that's 'Bruschi' - I can't believe I misspelled it. My Great Dane is named Bruschi. It's a sickness - I know. Now, I'm going to head over to Amazon and order some of Elaine's books.

Elaine -- Take care and get well soon. Lots of people are thinking about you!

Although I've read and loved TLC since the beginning, it took this to bring me out of lurkdom.
All the best to you and Don as you fight the good fight, Elaine--lots of people are rooting for you.
